Alyssa Heasman & Lucy Walsh delighted with their Junior Cert results

The staff and students of Meán Scoil were delighted but not surprised by the amazing results of Lucy and Alyssa who are in the top 5% in the country following the release of the Junior cert results yesterday. Lucy got an amazing 10 A's while Alyssa got 6 A's and 4 B's. Results like this at Leaving Cert would give both students maximum points. We are very proud of your achievements but also the respect you have always shown our school.

10 A's for Lucy Walsh in her Junior Cert

Lucy Walsh of Cappatigue, Castlegregory got an amazing 10 A's in her Junior Cert yesterday. Lucy who is the proud daughter of Tom and Paula Walsh is a very talented, intelligent and diligent girl with a very bright future ahead of her. She is currently in 5th year in our school and is studying Physics, Chemistry and D.C.G. as well as the core subjects of English, Irish, Maths and French. We wish to congratulate her on her results and wish her every success in what should be a very exciting future.

+ Religion is not examined at Junior Cert level in our school

*S.P.H.E., C.S.P.E.,P.E. and Career Guidance will make up one subject called ‘Well-being’ for all first year students entering our school in  September 2017 pending agreement from the teacher Union A.S.T.I.

**All first year students will do ‘taster’ courses in Business, Technical Graphics, Home Economics and Woodwork. After these ‘taster’ courses students will have to decide between Woodwork or Home Economics and also between Business or Technical Graphics.

***Art is optional for all students in our school and takes place every Wednesday from 2.00 – 4.00. The Junior Cert art syllabus is taught by a fully qualified Art teacher Ms. Rebekah Wall and all students complete the Junior Cert Art exam at the end of 3rd year.

Short Courses:     We offer 2 short courses to Junior Certificate students in our school.

Course 1: Digital Media and Literacy

Course 2: Computer Coding & Programming

These courses are optional to students from 1st to 3rd year and are taught by a fully qualified I.T. teacher Mr. Huw Roberts every Thursday from 4.30 – 6.00. 2 short courses count as one full subject. Students can do up to 10 subjects for their Junior Cert.

20% of Leaving Cert class get 470 + points

Meán Scoil students, parents and teachers were extremely pleased with the Leaving Cert results this year. The vast majority of students felt that they acheived their target and would be offered their course of choice. We wish them every happiness, health and indeed success in their exciting futures.
