Staff Structures

The teaching staff of Meán Scoil Nua an Leith Triúigh is appointed by the Board of Management, which is the legal employer. The school operates under the Education Act 1998 within Ireland’s free education system. Teacher salaries are paid by the Department of Education and Skills (DES) according to nationally agreed pay scales. The number of teaching posts is directly linked to the previous year's pupil enrolment through the pupil-teacher ratio. The Board also manages teacher contracts and responsibilities under the national redeployment scheme.

The Role of the Class Teacher and Staff

Although Meán Scoil Nua an Leith Triúigh is small in size, we operate a class teacher system to improve overall efficiency and effectiveness in all areas, particularly discipline. The class teacher has the responsibility of reading and counting all incident report sheets for their class group and relaying this information with home through the school journal. Students with 3 or more incident sheets will be placed on formal detention, and it is the responsibility of the class teacher to communicate this information with home.

Any serious incidents are brought to the attention of the Principal immediately. All discipline issues are highlighted at staff meetings, as are relevant pastoral care issues—this is possible due to the small size of the school. Similarly, student progress and achievements are highlighted regularly, and class teachers give lunch vouchers to reward students, as well as organizing an overall end-of-year awards ceremony. All staff are involved in SSE developments led by Nora and Karen.
